Our Highland Home

A Community Family Hub

Living the Dream

We’re here in Maryburgh owning and running The Cottage Bar & Restaurant thanks to a series of converging happy events. We came to our new home in the Highlands after a long journey from down south in Devon.

It all began when our daughter, met a handsome Scotsman and headed north. When she had a baby girl the deal was sealed – we’d have to move to Scotland to be closer to our new granddaughter.

We’d always wanted to run a hospitality business, and we’ve always loved the Highlands, so it all came together perfectly when we found The Cottage Bar, with its big grounds, different dining spaces, cosy bar and generous live-in family accommodation.

So, we’re all together, living the dream and loving it.

Heart of the Community

Since we took over The Cottage Bar & Restaurant, we have been busy making all sorts of improvements – not just to the building and grounds, but also to the menu, because to us great food is the way to a community’s heart (along with a few wee drams, of course).

Maryburgh has definitely taken us into its heart, for which we are extremely grateful, and we have made an effort to repay the village’s generosity of spirit by doing as much for the local community as we can. We support the Maryburgh Amenities Centre (our thriving equivalent to a village hall), as well as the local men’s shed and we’re pleased to sponsor the Maryburgh Football Club.

We also offer our function room for community meetings when necessary – although of course a great deal of debate about local issues goes on informally around our bar of an evening.

Home Cooked Meals

The Cottage Bar & Restaurant isn’t just for locals though, much as we love them! We enjoy meeting new faces who are passing through.

The route of the extremely popular North Coast 500 circular drive passes right through Dingwall, just a couple of miles away, so we attract a lot of tourists looking for a home-cooked meal and a beverage. (Find us on the NC500 app.)

If you’re visiting Inverness, take a pleasant drive to join us for lunch – take the A9 north, then turn onto the A835 and follow the signs to Conon Bridge and Maryburgh (postcode for Satnav is IV7 8EB).

Anyone and everyone finds a warm welcome from our family here at The Cottage. We’re dog and child friendly, and open 7 days a week.
